Eligibility Criteria: Eligibility to pursue a post-graduate broad-speciality course in Medicine in India is as per NMC, National Exit Test Regulations, 2023. Until the first batch based on National Exit Test (NExT) becomes eligible for admission in broad-speciality PG courses, the existing system of admission through the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Postgraduate (NEET-PG) will continue.
Eligibility to pursue a super-speciality programme/course in Medicine in India will be determined by securing the minimum eligible score at the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Super-Speciality (NEET-SS), which the National Medical Commission will conduct. An all-India merit list as well as a State-wise merit list of the eligible candidates is prepared based on the marks obtained in NExT or NEET-PG and candidates are admitted to post-graduate courses from the said merit lists only.
Conduct of NEET-SS: Either the National Medical Commission may conduct the NEET-SS for all or any few super-speciality courses or may designate any such agency or authority to cause the NEET-SS to be conducted. Post-Graduate Medical Education Board will determine the manner, modalities, etc., of conducting the NEET-SS for super-speciality courses.
Common Counseling: There is a common counselling procedure involving multiple rounds for admission to post-graduate courses in medicine for all medical institutions in India, solely based on the merit list of NEET - PG scores. All rounds of counselling for all seats will be held in online mode by the state or central counselling authority and no medical college or institution can admit any candidate themselves. For admission to broad-speciality post-graduate courses in medicine in medical institutions, the Central Government or its designated authority is the counselling agency for the All-India quota of seats, and the concerned state government /U.T. administration is the counselling agency for the respective state or union territory quota of seats. For all the seats in the super-speciality courses, the Central Government or its designated authority shall be the counselling agency.
All about NEET-PG
NEET-PG is an eligibility-cum-ranking examination that is the single entrance examination for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma courses in India. No other entrance examination, either at the state or the institution level, is valid for admission to MD, MS, or PG Diploma courses. Qualifying NEET-PG is mandatory for entry to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses at various universities and institutions in the country. NEETPG is mandatory even for foreign nationals seeking admission to postgraduate medical courses in India. MD/MS Course in India. The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences conducts the NEET-PG exam in India.

NEET-PG Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must have a valid MBBS degree or Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized by the NMC, the erstwhile Medical Council of India, or any State Medical Council, and they must have completed one year of mandatory internship.
An original compulsory rotating resident internship completion certificate is required at the time of counseling/admission to allotted medical college or institute.
Registration with the NMC, or State Medical Council, is necessary, and documentary proof is required to be furnished by the candidates on the day of examination and at the time of counseling/admission.
NEET-PG Eligibility Criteria for Foreign Medical Graduates: Indian students who have obtained their MBBS degree from medical colleges abroad should have qualified for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (ScreeningTest), or NExT. They must also be registered with the NMC and have completed their one-year mandatory internship at an Indian hospital.
NEET-PG Exam Pattern
NEET-PG is generally conducted on a single day and in a single session as a computer-based examination.
The syllabus for the NEET-PG is as per Graduate Medical Education Regulations issued by NMC.
NEET-PG exam comprises of 200 multiple choice questions taken on a computer.
There is a negative marking for a wrong answer.
The validity of the NEET-PG result is only for the current year admission session and cannot be carried forward for the next session of admissions for MD, MS, or PG Diploma courses.

The NEET - PG qualified candidates shall be considered for admission to the above-mentioned AFMS institutions under the following categories, in order of priority:

Priority-II (Government Sponsored Candidates from Friendly Foreign Countries)
Priority-III (Para Military/other Govt. of India sponsored candidates)
Priority-IV (Ex-Short Service Commission Officers of AFMS)
Priority-V (Civilians); Will have bond liability to serve AFMS
Suppose a student wants to take up postgraduate courses in an institution/hospital of Armed Forces Medical Services, at the time of online submission of the application form for NEET-PG. In that case, the student should select the option “YES” to “Are you willing to take up post-graduate courses in institution/hospital of Armed Forces Medical Services”.
AFMS publishes a separate notification every year with detailed instructions mentioning eligibility criteria and admission procedures for MD, MS, and PG courses at different AFMS institutions.
The candidates desirous for admission to AFMS institutions will have to go through the notification & apply accordingly to be considered for admission after declaration of NEET-PG result.
There is no provision of reservation of seats for SC/ST/OBC/PwD in the Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions.
Selection and final admissions to these institutions shall be made by the Armed Forces Medical Services based on the merits of the candidates & as per order of precedence mentioned above.
All eligible candidates desirous of MD/MS/PG Diploma seats in AFMS institutions have to mandatorily register with the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) of DGHS, MoHFW, and the Govt. of India at their website to be eligible for AFMS counseling for postgraduates at AFMS teaching institutes.
The merit-based allotment of seats will be done by AFMS after physical fitness test.
NEET-PG for Post-MBBS DNB, Direct 6-Year DrNB and NBEMS Diploma Courses
As mandated by the NMC, the merit list of NEET-PG is used by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences for admission to various post-MBBS DNB courses, Direct 6-year DrNB courses, and post-MBBS Diploma Courses of NBEMS. There is no separate exam for DNB CET.
Eligibility Criteria for Post-MBBS, Direct 6-Year DrNB and NBEMS Diploma Courses: Candidates must have an MBBS degree or a Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized by the NMC or possess a permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the NMC, the erstwhile Medical Council of India, or the State Medical Council and have completed one year of internship. Candidates already pursuing a DNB course are not eligible for admission to DNB Course until they have completed the entire duration of the prescribed course or have been discharged from the course. This shall be irrespective of their resignation or discontinuation from the course due to any reason.
