Government of India Advisory to Indian Students Seeking MBBS Admission in Georgia

In response to the thousands of questions of NEET students about MBBS in Georgia validity and grant of license to practice medicine in Georgia after 6 years of MBBS course as per Foreign Medical Graduates Licensing Regulations 2021. On, 29th September 2022, the Embassy of India in Yerevan has provided a satisfactory answer to all of them after talking with Georgian officials.

• Duration of the MBBS/MD Program in Georgia for Indian students is equal to MBBS qualification in India i.e 6 years (360 ECTS) including internship. It adheres to the NMC guidelines of minimum 54 months duration of medical education abroad.
• Duration of Internship/Clinical rotations and syllabus in the MBBS course in Georgia: Up to 3rd course, the students study fundamental and basic pre-clinical subjects from where they gain clinical skills. From the 4th year of study, MBBS students start clinical rotations. During 9-12th semesters i.e. (5th and 6th years of study) students have to do clerkships/internships in university hospitals, teaching hospitals or primary care clinics. During the 6th year students studies in clinical environment. The clinical clerkships/internship of 12-months comprise 120 ECTS.

• According to the Georgian legislation Indian students studying MBBS in Georgia have the right:

a) to be employed as a junior doctor – a position that is occupied by an MD graduate from state-accredited higher medical institution who can perform the duties of a doctor according to the instructions.

b) to take the postgraduate residency course and after passing the Unified State Certification Exam Indian students get the right of independent medical practice.

c) to continue doctoral studies (i.e., research career in biomedical sciences leading to PHD degree, comprising 3 years) or they can engage in pedagogical and/or scientific activities.

• After completing MBBS in Georgia Indian students can practice as a junior Doctor and gets registered with the professional regulatory body of Georgia. Indian students can get license for independence medical practice in Georgia after completing residency and post graduation.
